Episode 98: The Split
Fannia and Donnaught watched intently as the battle below continued. "This must be equivalent to Solar War 1 through 19. Solar War 20 through 27 were complete flops. It's hard to have a good war when half the world is ravaged by bombs and the like," Fannia mumbled.
"Indeed," said Donnaught. "Now, shush! I'm attempting to find this solar system in the database. Ah, here we are!" Donnaught plugged the information jack into an inlet on the back of his neck and made a light humming sound.
"Well?" Fannia asked impatiently.
"It seems as though the ape-like people and human-like folks are known as the Harts and the Brents respectively," Donnaught closed his eyes and massaged his temples for a moment, trying in vain to find the needed information. "There's nothing else we know. The perpetual war has prevented anyone from really studying them. The entry itself was written over one hundred years ago."
Fannia let out a sigh. "So we're basically done for? Left to die on a virtually nonexistent solar system?"
"Not necessarily, the Brent's may have some sort of communication device. We may be able to modernize it and send an S.O.S. back home."
"Wait," Fannia interrupted, "why do you assume the Brents have this technology? Why not the Harts?"
"Well," Donnaught replied, "the Harts look somewhat... oh what's the word? Savage."
"As a member of the No Species Left Behind community, I consider that offensive."
Both Donnaught and Fannia were clearly getting tired of this argument.
