People in his house are up to no good. Joe convinced himself that his friends wouldn't bust down his door.
He pops up and shoot through the window with his shotgun. The shotgun pellets carries one man backward, before hitting the wall. Joe sees the shocked face of the second man. As the man raises the gun, Joe puts the second shotgun round in his chest.
