Dimensional Door

In 2047, Earth scientists, working for the InterGalactic Space Research Agency, discovered a new dimension in space. It allowed them to relate all previously known dimensions together to form a universal grid. Using this universal grid, space vessels may travel through to another location anywhere in the universe in a matter of seconds. This technology is called a Dimensional Door.

However, the equipment necessary to create a Dimensional Door is bulky. The machinery needed to generate a hole large enough for the vessel is almost as big as the vessel itself. Theoretically, if the equipment is as big as a vessel, the vessel itself could never contain such a machinery. If it did, it would be twice as big and it would need a bigger Dimensional Door "opener". And then the bigger "opener" would again add size to the vessel, and the reasoning cycle repeats. However, experiments has shown that the ratio of the "opener" to the size of the hole, created by the "opener," reaches 1:2 as the machinery reaches just over half a mile cubed. And as much as 1:4 over 5 miles cubed. Meaning that the vessels larger than half-miles cubed can carry its own Dimension Door opener.

Traveling through Dimensional Door is quite risky. If anything gets in the vessel's way as it materializes out of the tunnel, the result would be catastrophic. Such as when the other side of the "door" is in the middle of a star.

Dimensional Gate

Dimensional Gate is a large Dimensional Door that is generally fixed at a certain locations for vessels to travel through. Most dimensional gates are hexagonal, but they can be any shape. Connecting any two points in space, any vessel that travels through the gate would emerge at the other end instantly. Though a dimensional gate is fixed in one location and offers only one destination, it permits safety, speed, and convenience to reach popular destinations.

Dimensional Vortex

The Dimensional Vortex is a technology based on the Dimensional Door. It is basically a tunnel, generated by a Dimensional Vortex "opener", that connects any two points in the universe and allows faster than light speed travel. Although it is like the Dimensional Door, which allows long range travel in an instant, the Vortex is much slower. Traveling time through a Dimensional Vortex is approximately one light years per hour, with a standard deviation of plus/minus 15 minutes. However, the Dimensional Vortex does make space travel much safer because personnels on the vessel can calculate and re-plan destination as the ship travels. Therefore, the vessel can make corrections to the final destination to avoid any potential hazards.
